City will resubmit bike path grant
On May 10, after a brief public hearing, the Newcastle City Council approved a resolution to submit a $500,000 grant application to the Wyoming Business Council to complete the bike path from the Highway 16 bypass to Saddle Subdivision. Included in the grant application are funds for a restroom to be built along the path and the construction of tennis courts in Centennial.
The City of Newcastle had applied for the same grant before, and come home without any funding from the State of Wyoming at that time, but members of the State Land and Investment Board (SLIB) asked local officials to return at a later date to seek the funding for the project again. News Letter Journal Associate Publisher Bob Bonnar was part of the group that put the first application together, and he spoke in favor of the resolution and grant application at last week’s meeting.
