Dear Editor,
Republicans and Democrats have been in a constant battle for more and better seating at the table serving government graft and corruption. We the people are in a very distant second place.
Due to a recently occurring political event that will affect the well-being of both the R’s and D’s, we may have to actually participate in (not necessarily partisan) politics.
For some that will be difficult because their only concern has been about supporting an antisocial “No” on most bills benefiting ‘We The People.’
The new contender for absolute control over us is an “authoritarian regime” sometimes called an “Illiberal Democracy.” This is nothing new, it has happened from time to time around the world, sometimes resulting in revolution or war. The principle feature of our new illiberal democracy is the “Golden Rule.” He who has the gold makes the rules. Obviously, that would be Trump. Already he has chosen to ignore or violate many laws without any “push-back” from the Republican Congress. Are you guys complicit or just asleep at the switch?
The Casper paper reports that there has already been a meeting promoting an Article 5 Convention of States (to change our Constitution). The article did not reveal whether ‘ALEC’ (Kochs law writing and promoting agency) sponsored or led the meeting.
The majority in Congress are in it for themselves and therefore unlikely to change the Constitution to benefit us— themselves probably, but not us. Even more serious would be our inevitable slide into a dystopian reality of endless Trump tweets.
